This narrative is an account of the lived experiences of a female volunteer confronted with a possible sexual assault situation. Although an actual crime was not committed, this account provides insight into the thoughts and feelings of an individual confronted with the likely reality of it occurring.
The most frightening thing I've experienced since being in country. The worst part of living in a developing country is the gender inequalities and violence against women. Always having to mitigate risk and being seen as less than men. This us what is at the basis of sexual assault.

Instead of writing, I chose to portray the experience through word art which is very symbolic. The words create a bomb, which is a metaphor for the total experience; from the beginning signs to coping mechanisms, to self talk to seeking help and finally feeling relieved so that the bomb didn't explode. A few words that stand out here are anxiety, uncomfortable, sleep, night, vigilance, man, powerless, helplessness.
On another note, Peace Corps does a great job helping volunteers mitigate risk and also being an advocate to volunteers.
